So, the whole idea of me getting into this 22lr shooting was to get more trigger and scope time. I have a Howa 7mm Mag with a vortex viper 4-16x44. I hunt elk and mule deer in Az with it. So far I’ve yet to have killed from less than 300yrds and out to just a few yards short of 500yrds.
I asked a question last week and there was an overwhelming majority of Arken recommendations. So, I’ve spent the last week learning everything I can, even chatted with the company a little.
Keeping to my original plan of using the 22 to practice, Arken offers the same reticle in the higher end EP5 and they do in the less expensive SH4. That is a huge + when it comes to what I want to do.
Every review I’ve seen and read on the Arken only revolves around “precision” shooting. Haven’t found a hunter that’s got an opinion yet.
Question to the brain trust here…
The viper has served me well, but I’d like to be able to dial it instead of using the BDC with sub tensions. Am I crazy to be replacing it with the EP5?
No, not crazy at all. I have replaced almost all of my scopes with Arken Optics, and the EP5 is so far, my favorite!! The reticles are thin, for precision. I don't mind it, as I leave my magnification down low while finding my targets or animals. Turn up the magnification to make the shot. The illuminated reticle makes up any difference if I don't have time to run the magnification up, and can still make the quick shots when necessary.
