The EP5 and SH4 scopes are both night vision devices produced by L3Harris Technologies. While they share some similarities, there are several key differences between the two models. Here are some of the main distinctions:
1. Generation: The EP5 is classified as a Generation 3 night vision device, while the SH4 is a Generation 4 device. Generation 4 devices generally offer superior performance in terms of image quality, resolution, and low-light sensitivity compared to Generation 3.
1. Image Quality: Due to the advancements in technology, the SH4 typically provides a higher level of image quality compared to the EP5. Generation 4 devices tend to have better contrast, clarity, and reduced image distortion, resulting in improved overall vision.
1. Resolution: The SH4 often has a higher resolution image compared to the EP5. This means that the SH4 can provide more detailed and sharper images, allowing for better target recognition and identification.
1. Low-Light Performance: Generation 4 devices like the SH4 generally exhibit better low-light performance, allowing for enhanced visibility in extremely dark conditions. They typically have improved sensitivity to low levels of light, which can be beneficial in situations where ambient lighting is minimal.
1. Price: Due to the more advanced technology and superior performance, Generation 4 night vision devices like the SH4 tend to be more expensive than Generation 3 devices like the EP5.
It's important to note that specific features and specifications may vary between different models and manufacturers, so it's always recommended to refer to the product documentation and consult with experts or retailers to obtain accurate and up-to-date information about the EP5 and SH4 scopes.

My understanding is the EP5 uses Japanese-made lenses, while the others use Chinese lenses (nominally lower quality). The EP5 has a 56 mm objective while the SH4 is 50 mm. Unless shooting in lower light conditions, that will not provide a significant benefit. Obviously a significant price difference. I have an EP5, and am considering a SH4 to put on a precision rimfire.
The EP5 has a 56mm objective, Japanese ED glass, and a full 10 MIL per revolution on the elevation turret.
The SH4 has a 50mm objective, Chinese HD glass, and 8 MIL per revolution,
Both are great scopes, but the EP5 is the dominate one of the bunch.
