Possible Defective Scope?....need advice

I purchased an SH4 a couple of months back...4x16x50 for my Tikka .308 CTR. I noticed when I first looked through the scope without it mounted....just after I unboxed it, that I see many,many small transparent dots in random patterns in the full field of view. I only see this on a darker background. If I look at the scope against the sky, I dont see it nor when I am pointed at a target downrange. A few weeks later I purchased an EP5 and I do not have this issue at all. I am wondering what this could be and is this a defect. I suspect it is. It doesnt seem to effect the use of the scope, but I really dont know because if they were not there in the first place would I have more clarity?
